Case Study Two

DOT Highway Construction.

Issues and Challenges:

  • Excessive rainfall amounts
  • Scheduling and project delays
  • Sensitive nearby waters
  • Stringent discharge requirements
  • Groundwater flows

Approaches and Solutions:

Heavy sediment laden water threatened to breach the temporary retention basin sidewalls resulting in contamination of a nearby river. Liquid Biostar-CH was injected into the water as it was pumped from the basins. Weir tanks were employed to pre-settle the suspended solids prior to passing through a sand filtration system. Clean water was allowed to be discharged directly into the river.
